The FARMY program was developed to train trainers to provide agriculture education challenges to students to achieve their personal and professional best. The program consists of three components:
Classroom Instruction – enriches student opportunities with hands-on learning experiences
Supervised Agriculture Experiences – leadership, development, career exploration, reinforcement of academic concepts
Preparing for the Future – judging agricultural and/or farming activities, oral speaking developing leadership, personal growth and career potential thereby enabling students to learn lessons of life
WHAT IS F.A.R.M.Y.?
FARMY is a Training of Trainers (TOT) model to present how-to techniques for involving minority youth. The model includes:
- Strategies to provide agriculture education challenges to underrepresented youth

- Partnering with schools, churches, youth centers, youth organizations and families
|
- An enhancement to science, mathematics and technology – hands-on learning experiences
|
|
|
|
- Knowledge of contributions of minorities in agriculture and related sciences
|
- Supervised agriculture experiences to provide leadership development, career exploration and promoting environmental education
|
|
|
|
- Personal growth and involvement in science outreach and service in the community
|
- Developing local projects, collecting data and comparison of results
|
|
|
|
- Introduction of futuristic concepts in agriculture, biotechnology, biodiversity, high-tech scientific equipment and nutrition
|
- Increase the pool of historically under-represented youth to complete post-secondary studies in areas of agriculture and related sciences
